No wildlife event on the planet rivals East Africa’s Great Migration for sheer drama. Each year, the enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra, 2 million strong, make a great circuit across the Serengeti Plains as they travel from Tanzania into Kenya's famed Maasai Mara and back, following the new grass that sprouts with the seasonal rains. A host of predators follows in stealthy pursuit.
To witness the migration in the Mara is on many a safari aficionado's bucket list, and this tour with private luxury mobile camps is designed to place you in the heart of the action. Back at camp each night, sip sundowners before sumptuous dinners and exchange stories around the crackling campfire under a sky full of glittering stars. There’s simply no nature adventure on Earth to match it and that’s why, if you’re making a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Africa to see the Great Migration, you need to do it right.
You will spend seven full days in the Maasai Mara at the time of year when the migration is typically at its peak, in two different locations where wildlife is most prolific—both in the heart of the national reserve and in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, private reserve adjacent to the national park where visitor numbers are strictly limited. You will be in peak proximity to the migration!
Our private mobile camps will be located in remote areas near the animals, and we have exclusive occupancy of both. Our camp within the Maasai Mara is in a little-visited region of the reserve, yet water and good grass typically keep herds nearby. The location is also very near the Mara and Talek rivers, where we may witness exciting river crossings with frequent predator-prey interactions. Our other camp, located in the private Mara Naboisho Conservancy, borders the national reserve and sees few other visitors.
Traveling in a small group means you will get closer to the herds and have better photo opportunities. Your experience will be enriched by more personalized interpretation from your Expedition Leader as you watch the wildlife action side by side.
During your safari you will experience game drives in 4x4 safari trucks where everyone has a window seat, offering unimpeded views and photography.
While most migration safaris stay strictly within the national reserve, your safari includes the private Mara Naboisho Conservancy, where you will have the opportunity for guided bush walks, off-road exploration and night drives in search of nocturnal wildlife. None of these activities is available inside the national parks.
Many safari companies transport you to and from the Maasai Mara from Nairobi by vehicle, meaning long, dusty drives over rough roads. You will be flying both ways, maximizing time for what you have come to Kenya for: wildlife viewing on safari!
Enjoy unparalleled privacy and proximity to wildlife during exclusive stays at two luxury mobile camps in the Maasai Mara and private Naboisho Conservancy.
