When you are sitting at your desk having your morning coffee, or wherever it is that you do your daydreaming about getting away from it all, what comes to mind? Are you dreaming about that bucket list vacation to Italy, you know, the one where you are sipping champagne while gliding along in a gondola? Or are you picturing a glorious weekend getaway, lounging in the sun on the deck of a catamaran, while emerald green water slips by?
Our lives are complicated and sometimes you just need a break. You will find women around the world and here at home, sharing incredible experiences and exciting adventures. So which adventure are you ready for, that bucket list vacation or a weekend getaway where you can make some new friends and try something fun and exciting? Here are a few things to consider before you decide.
How Much Time Do You Have?
This is probably one of the biggest deciding factors. If you are lucky enough to be either retired or have paid time off from your job, you may find that you have plenty of time to take that bucket list vacation that you have been imagining. In addition to work considerations, you may have other obligations on your time that you have to consider, for instance looking after grandchildren or elderly parents. After taking all of these things into consideration, choose a vacation that will allow you to get the most enjoyment from the time spent, rather than trying to put too many activities or destinations into one trip. It may sound like a good idea to see 12 countries in 8 days, but trust me it’s not!
Where Do You Want To Go?
You may have several ideas on where you would like to go, but to ensure that you get the experience that you really want, think about what experience you are looking for in a destination. Is it realistic considering time restraints, availability and cost? Are the activities, sights and experiences you are hoping for available? Is it the right time of year? Is transportation available and safe? Does the destination require that you spend a week or more to get the best experience or could you make it a shorter getaway trip? There are many things to consider when choosing a destination, things that you may not even think about. For example, you may be dreaming of seeing the northern lights on your summer trip to Iceland, but going in October would be better because there is too much light in the summer months making it impossible to see them. Just make sure to do your homework, take a tour or contact a travel advisor to help you with the planning.
What Does It Cost?
Cost is not always a factor in deciding whether or not to take a vacation, but it is always a consideration. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, you expect to receive good value for your money. What determines value? Several things come to mind, including customer service, ease of use, and level of expectation. Whether you are planning on taking that bucket list vacation or a fun weekend getaway, making sure that you are getting your monies worth is important. Your expectations will determine the value for you. For instance you may consider a 4 day getaway in 5 star hotels a much better value than 10 days in 3 star accommodations, it’s all about perception. As long as you are realistic about the experience you expect to receive in relation to what you paid for, and you receive that anticipated level of service, the trip will be well worth it.
The bottom line is that whether you decide to take a bucket list vacation, a getaway or even several trips, it is worth taking a bit time to figure out what will work best for you, in your situation at this time in your life. It doesn’t matter where you go, or how long you go for – just go, see the world, make some friends and learn something new – because life should be an adventure!
